A man carrying a trunk runs through a cane field in rural Louisiana. He’s hunted by a bloodhound and a madman hungry for revenge.

Forty years later, when Felix Herbert’s father dies and his will is read, he learns that the family fortune won't pass to next of kin. Instead, a cryptic note with a vague clue invites Felix to visit his father's hometown in the countryside near the Big Easy, and to find out what darkness the past may hold.

Felix will team up with his partner Melancon and family friend Tomás De Valencia, hoping to solve the great injustice at the heart of a blood feud four decades old.
